The Rise of Wolf 8

Picture
This is one of the best books I have ever read. It is non-fiction and it reads at some times like a thriller. I don't remember where I found out about it (maybe the hiking groups I follow on Facebook).

I am going to avoid all spoilers .......... the author of the book has researched wolves at Denali National Park and Glacier National Park and when the wolves were introduced back into Yellowstone, he was there as a researcher who logged the various packs.

His book examines two wolves in detail: wolf 8, the runt of the litter of an original pack moved from Canada and wolf 10, one of his adopted sons and one of the biggest wolves in Yellowstone. The fact that wolf 8 managed to lead a pack (the story behind it is incredible), against the background of being raised among his bully brothers is told in the first part of the book. How to gets to be a pack leader is such a human story .............

Wolf 10 is one of the adopted sons of wolf 8, who becomes a gigantic wolf and eventually becomes the pack lead of a wolf pack next to wolf 8's territory. There is a story about the neurotic and tyrannical female leader of his pack that is fascinating.

The amount of observation that the author details in the book shows a great commitment to follow and understand the behavior of these animals ........... of special mention is the games they play and how the author keeps seeing different games the wolves play.

The book leads to an inevitable confrontation between the packs of wolves 8 and 10, which I approached with dread. It reads like a Hollywood action thriller, which you can not believe how it ends.

The noble way that wolf 8 lived is to be admired.
